Indigenous Workstars Victoria

An employment maximisation program with real and practical outcomes

Indigenous Workstars Victoria

Indigenous Workstars Victoria is an Indigenous Employment Program funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and with real and practical outcomes for Indigenous job seekers.

The first Indigenous Workstars' project in Queensland provided the missing link between Indigenous people and potential employers, and the Victorian program aims to replicate the successes of the project delivered throughout the Surat Basin, Central Queensland and Bowen Basin.
The desire to employ and train Indigenous Australians has never been higher, yet many employers still face difficulties finding suitable Indigenous people. The success of the Indigenous Workstars' model is founded on thorough interviewing of employers, community members and businesses, matching the aspirations and opportunities of all stakeholders.

The combination of matching the most suitable Indigenous employees to vacancies with high-quality, and role-specific mentoring, leads not only to excellent placement rates, but also exceptional retention rates.

In addition, the inclusion of role-specific, pre-employment preparation and training for participants enhances the capacity of Indigenous Workstars Victoria to assist Indigenous jobseekers to obtain and retain suitable employment.
